Lionel Richie has embarked on a major U.S. tour, performing his hit “Endless Love” every night without Diana Ross. And all to the singer’s great displeasure, who had no hesitation in sending the diva a humorous dig: “She’s been saying no to me for 37 years! Watch the sequence!
No one has forgotten Lionel Richie! A true star in the 80s, the American singer racked up a string of hits, from “Hello” to “All Night Long (All Night)”, including “Say You, Say Me” and “Dancing on the Ceiling”. With over 100 million records sold, the artist continues his career today. Although his last album, “Tuskegee”, dates back to 2012, Lionel Richie has been more successful in recent years as a juror on “American Idol”, alongside Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, as well as on stage. In early August, he embarked on a major North American tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, entitled “Sing a Song All Night Long”. It’s an opportunity for him to perform his greatest hits, including of course “Endless Love”, his romantic ballad duet with Diana Ross, released in 1981 and still one of his greatest hits today.
“She’d rather sing happy birthday to Beyoncé!”
But make no mistake about it, Diana Ross is unlikely to join Lionel Richie on her American tour for a special surprise duet. Much to Richie’s chagrin. At a recent concert, the singer took a jibe at his fellow singer, not without humor, just before performing the famous “Endless Love”. ” There’s a song I want to do. And for 37 years, I’ve been trying to get Madame Diana Ross to come on stage right here. 37 years I’ve been trying to get Madame Ross on the phone! ” he proclaimed to the audience, as seen in a video that went viral on social networks: ” But it became clear to me that she’s been saying no to me for 37 years! What did you think? That she’d show up tonight? Madame’s not coming!” “. And to conclude with humor before a hilarious audience: ” She’d rather go and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Beyoncé, that pisses me off!” “.
Diana Ross, currently on a best-of world tour, appeared at Beyoncé‘s concert at Los Angeles‘ SoFi Stadium on September 4 to wish her a happy birthday in front of 60,000 fans. Clearly, the “Upside Down” singer chooses her appearances very carefully… which is not to Lionel Richie’s taste!
