Kendrick Lamar fires the first shot
It all started on March 22 with Kendrick Lamar’s surprise appearance on “Like That,” featuring Future and Metro Boomin (We Don’t Trust You). The 36-year-old artist then took a jab at J.Cole and especially Drake, boldly proclaiming himself as number one. Subsequently, on April 5, J.Cole retaliated with the track “7 Minute Drill,” featured on his surprise project “Might Delete Later.” Two days later, to everyone’s surprise, the native of Frankfurt (Germany) apologized at Dreamville Fest after his diss track towards Kendrick Lamar. To fully commit to his gesture, J.Cole even removed the track from streaming platforms. The events could have ended there, but that was not the case. Indeed, J.Cole switched sides. He sparked controversy by appearing on Future and Metro Boomin’s second joint album: “We Still Don’t Trust You.” Drake found himself alone against all. What better way to respond in music for the Canadian artist? He released “Push Ups” on April 13, followed by “Taylor Made Freestyle” featuring the voices of Tupac and Snoop Dogg generated by an AI, two frontal attacks against Kendrick Lamar. DAMN.’s interpreter could not let his number one enemy get away with it. Kendrick Lamar took the time to conceive a fatal assault against Drake. Thus, “Euphoria,” six minutes long, was released on all platforms. We invite you to dissect the lyrics on Genius.
A historic FridayMay 3
The clash took a new turn on Friday, May 3. While Drake had not even responded yet, Kendrick Lamar unveiled “6.16,” available only on Instagram. The title is a reference to Father’s Day in Canada. This was enough for Drizzy to break the silence. With “Family Matters,” the 37-year-old artist openly criticizes the family of the Compton representative with wild accusations for seven minutes.
Just an hour after the song was released, Kendrick Lamar offered listeners a fourth diss track with “meet the grahams,” available on Youtube.
