The Australian rapper continues to rock the web with his music!
Eager to bring a more mysterious, alluding feel to his project, Mason Moon has just added a new release to his already extensive discography with “VERTIGO”. On this track, the rapper plunges us into a dark delirium, distilling an abrasive rap in our ears: “Reason to escape this reality, even when awake – still nightmares of me” he launches with conviction in the middle of a verse. Hello Mason, what was the starting point for this new video?
MM : I’ve been sitting on the song for almost a year and had previously made a short visualiser for it, but pushed myself to go further and adapt it into a full music video.
What was the desired artistic direction?
MM : The visual aesthetic is tonally dark, monochrome which transitions into a deep red for the final sequence. These creative decisions are essential to crafting that gritty atmosphere my team sought out to achieve.
In the end, did you manage to do everything you’d set out to do?
MM : We had multiple hiccups while shooting certain scenes, one was when we travelled out for the final shoot our lighting equipment lost charge. We had to reschedule for a week later. Another big hiccup was when we worked with our Drone Operator to get the driving shot inside the Tunnel, where the Operator crashed the drone into the Tunnel Ceiling – sending it smashing down onto the busy freeway where I had the fun job of retrieving it. These things unfortunately happen regardless of how much you can plan something, I’m just glad the end result looks as stunning as it does.
Would you agree that this clip is quite different from the previous ones?
MM : This shift in tone is a certain change for me and my musical identity, as I typically create more general rap music and music videos. Doing something like Vertigo rebrands myself under a more serious light, making me more appealing due to my unique videos and sound. I wanted this video to highlight me at my lowest, then transitioning into meeting my ideal self – hence why the video starts with me at a party (wasting my time) and ends with that version of myself meeting the ‘Made Me’ – that’s the guy onstage at the final act
