At first listen, “paradox” by Mr Pancake Man might sound harmless, like a smile you weren’t sure was meant for you. But beneath its seemingly light tone, the track carves out a space of delicate confusion, somewhere between gentle irony and disoriented tenderness. Taken from the EP of the same name, this well-crafted pop song, produced by Chris Orr, leaves a delicious uncertainty hanging in the air: should we dance or start questioning everything? The video, directed by Sean Tran, plays out a repeating pattern, several different women, each sharing a similar moment of closeness with him… only to leave him alone in a quiet, gray room. A bittersweet emotional loop, portrayed with the help of Allene Arands, Aniyah Dawn Tyler Hendrick, Jocelyn Henley, Maybelline Inenez, Reyahna Reyes-Jimenez III, and Janelle Sadakhoune. A sharp little gem brought to you by Slash Music.
“Paradox”: an EP where absurdity makes sense
Behind the cartoonish name and wacky persona, Mr Pancake Man — aka Chris Orr — offers a take on rap that’s as offbeat as it is deliberate. A true lyrical daredevil, he swings between absurd punchlines and introspective moments with the flair of a philosophical clown. His latest release, the EP “Paradox” (July 17, 2025), isn’t a standalone project — it’s a teaser, gathering the four singles (“murpehy”, “toast”, “disneyworld”, and “paradox”) ahead of his upcoming full-length album, “Advance To Area”, expected in early August. Each track delivers clever surprises wrapped in thoughtful humor. You never quite know where he’s taking you — but it’s always worth the ride. With a diss track about old people already in the works and an ever-growing oddball universe across his socials, one thing’s for sure: Mr Pancake Man is just getting started flipping expectations.
