If you fell asleep during the end of the last episode, we tell you what happened, and we give you some more info, especially on this famous Joker card…
« Alice in Borderland » is clearly an underrated series on Netflix. But justice is done, the series inspired by the famous manga written by Aso Haro is gaining momentum thanks to its season 2 rich in twists and turns. It must be said that with such a charismatic cast (Kento Yamazaki, Nijiro Yurakami or even Aya Asahina) and such a gripping story, the Japanese blockbuster hit the bullseye.

The end of season 2 in a few lines…
Needless to say, we’re going to spoil you. So if you plan to watch the end of season 2, skip to the next paragraph. Finally, Arisu and Usagi find themselves in front of the final boss of the game who will offer them to play an endless game of croquet (surely, many of you fell asleep during this passage). The two adventurers will take the opportunity to get answers. After an endless suspense, we finally understand that Arisu and his friends, during the first episode, got caught in a huge meteorite. And all the protagonists present in the game were in fact also present in the city during the first episode. All of them had a near-death experience and these famous games were in fact the crossroads between life and death. It is then proposed to the last survivors (or winners) of the games to remain in the game forever (death) or to leave it (life). Arisu wakes up in the hospital, surrounded by everyone who wished to get out of the game, but no one recognizes each other, and only a feeling of deja vu remains. Arisu and Usagi come face to face at the hospital cash dispenser, and even though the memories are gone, the love still seems to be intact…
And the Joker card?
The last shot in the series ends with the famous Joker card… A shot that raises a lot of questions. For our part, we do not think that this last plan suggests a sequel, quite the contrary. The joker card was not present in the games. Maybe that suggests luck has no place when you’re between life and death. Only determination and courage will be needed to return to life. This is also why the games are so cruel and why many of the characters in the series will die during them. On the other hand, in real life, the joker card exists, and luck has its place in our world. It is in any case our theory on this card which appears on a gaming table of the hospital at the end of season 2. We saw a tweet on a book which would say a little more about this famous joker card for the most curious.
Other theories say that the joker would in fact represent a non-human entity that would rule these Borderlands, this border between life and death. In the original manga, Arisu encounters the Joker just before leaving the Borderlands. Readers see them as an entity shrouded in darkness. The Joker then asks Arisu if they look like God or the Devil. Although Arisu doesn’t say it out loud, he thinks the Joker seems neither, but just the ferryman who helps the dead cross the Sanzu River. FYI, in the Japanese Buddhist tradition, the Sanzu River plays almost the same role as Vaitarani in Hinduism or the Styx River in Greek mythology, making the Joker a Charon-like figure.
A season 3 soon?
An anonymous source close to the production teams of the series would have revealed to the English media Small Screen that a season 3 was in development. The latter should deviate a little more from the manga which normally ends in season 2. For the moment, nothing has been announced on the side of Netflix which is surely waiting to see the numbers soar to get more excited. On our side, we strongly condemn the arrival of a season 3. All good things come to an end, and “Alice in Borderland season 2” ends in apotheosis. Trying to reheat this series in the microwave to tinker us with a season 3 would be a real shame. Of course, this remains our personal opinion, and that, no one cares (snif).
