A return to roots imbued with luxury
Indeed, it is in the upscale neighborhood of Bridle Path, overlooking the city of Toronto with breathtaking views of Lake Ontario, that Drake has erected his personal haven. This 46,000 square foot property, one of the largest in Toronto, embodies the epitome of luxury and refinement. The rapper bought the land in 2015 for $6.7 million. Dubbed “The Embassy,” the mansion draws inspiration from traditional and slightly abstract architecture while imbuing a contemporary spirit. And it’s the famous designer Ferris Rafauli who was the mastermind behind this architectural masterpiece. In fact, as confirmed by the designer to Architectural Digest magazine: “Drake personally requested that the mansion be overwhelmingly luxurious.”
Amenities worthy of a star
Drake’s villa is not just beautiful; it’s also equipped with all the imaginable amenities for a sumptuous lifestyle. It boasts a regulation-sized NBA basketball court, a recording studio of course, and an atmospheric basement pool. Hanging from the ceiling of the “Great Room” is a Metropolitan chandelier (emblematic of the Austrian crystal glassware brand Lobmeyr). Originally designed by Hans Harald Rath to adorn the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1963, this dazzling light sculpture is the second-largest installation of its kind in the world, featuring over 20,000 hand-cut Swarovski crystals.
This space also houses a custom-made concert grand piano from the venerable Austrian piano maker Bösendorfer. Luxurious materials abound, with textiles from Alexander McQueen and Jean-Paul Gaultier, as well as bronze, black granite, Macassar ebony, and brown agate.
Moreover, Drake enjoys lounging in his 3,000 square foot master suite, which features a one-ton bed from Rafauli’s new collection for Hästens, and a 4,000-pound bathtub carved from a single slab of black marble. This extravagant luxury serves a purpose and carries a clear message, as Drizzy points out: “It’s a high-end luxury home. This message is conveyed through the size of the rooms, the materials, and the details of the floors and ceilings. I wanted to make sure people could see the work I’ve done over the years from every angle.”
A mansion that attracts trouble…
However, this luxurious haven has turned into a target of attacks lately, particularly after the violent clash with Kendrick Lamar, who revealed Drizzy’s mansion address. Thus, during the beginning of this month of May alone, several incidents have been reported. There was first a shooting outside the mansion, followed by an attempted break-in by 3 men. Subsequently, a mansion security guard was seriously injured by gunfire on May 7th. It must be said that currently, The Embassy is under attack, and the situation is tense.
