Nearly 20 years ago, on September 22, 2004, Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on a mysterious island, giving birth to one of the most iconic series in television history. “Lost” not only revolutionized the television landscape but also launched or propelled the careers of many actors who have since become familiar faces in Hollywood. Through mysteries, flashbacks, and complex plots, the series kept millions of viewers on the edge of their seats for six seasons. As we are in 2024, where are Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and the other castaways who marked a whole generation of fans?

1-Matthew Fox – Jack Shephard
At 38, Matthew Fox found himself at a turning point in his career. With only one series under his belt, “Party of Five,” he landed the iconic role of Jack Shephard in “Lost.” In the series, he plays an exceptional neurosurgeon whose charisma quickly propels him to leadership of the survivors’ group. He distinguishes himself from the first episode by trying to save those in need, displaying his status as a resourceful leading man.
Despite this success on television, Matthew Fox’s personal life has been less bright. After “Lost” ended, he almost completely disappeared from the radar, making only a few film appearances. In 2012, he appeared in films like “Alex Cross” and “Emperor,” and in 2013, he shared the screen with Brad Pitt in “World War Z,” though his role was very minor. He also made a brief appearance in the horror film “Extinction.”
After a prolonged break, he decided to quit acting in 2015, before making a notable return in 2022. 2-Evangeline Lilly – Kate Austen
The Canadian actress, who speaks perfect French, first worked as a model before joining an NGO in the Philippines. It’s there that she decided to try her luck and auditioned for the role of Kate Austen in “Lost.” Kate is a fugitive about to face trial, a character both mysterious and moving, who shows great courage. Throughout the series, her heart oscillates between Jack and Sawyer, adding complexity to her story.
Evangeline Lilly is undoubtedly the one who best capitalized on her “Lost” experience. Like her character, she is resourceful and resilient. After the series ended in 2010, she quickly bounced back, moving toward action and adventure films. She appeared in “Real Steel” alongside Hugh Jackman, then joined The Hobbit saga as the elf Tauriel, captivating audiences with her performance.
In 2015, her career took a major turn when she landed a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She plays Hope Van Dyne in “Ant-Man” (released in 2015, 2018, and 2023), as well as in “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019 and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in 2022. 3-Naveen Andrews – Sayid Jarrah
How can one forget Sayid Jarrah, the altruistic former soldier skilled in technology, whose father would have been ashamed to see him helping Americans? In “Lost,” Naveen Andrews portrays this complex character, having already several film successes under his belt, such as “The English Patient,” “Bride and Prejudice,” and “Grindhouse.” Sayid, a keen observer and particularly intelligent, is an ex-member of the Iraqi Republican Guard who finds himself stranded on the island.
After “Lost” ended in 2010, Naveen Andrews made a notable appearance in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” as a detective. He then briefly appeared in the adventure series “Sinbad,” but it was with “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” that he finally got a substantial role, airing in France on M6 from 2013 to 2014. During this period, he returned to cinema with the film “Diana,” where he played Dr. Hasnat Khan, a British doctor of Pakistani origin and the princess’s ex-lover.
Subsequently, Naveen focused on television. He joined the cast of Netflix’s “Sense8,” a series that, despite its meteoric success, ended after the third season in 2018. But the actor didn’t remain idle: he landed a role in “Instinct,” where he again explored his cyber skills between 2018 and 2019.
More recently, in 2022, he appeared in the mini-series “The Dropout” alongside Amanda Seyfried. Currently, he stars in the series “Pradeeps of Pittsburgh” which has been airing since October 17 on Prime Video according to The Wrap.

4-Dominic Monaghan – Charlie Pace
Of English origin, Dominic Monaghan lived in Germany until the age of twelve. In “Lost,” he plays Charlie Pace, a former rock star addicted to heroin, who quickly befriends Locke and Claire. His character, however, meets a tragic end at the end of season 3. Before joining the adventure series’ cast, the actor already had a successful career, having played in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy between 2001 and 2003. Dominic seems to have maintained a preference for adventure and science fiction films.
After six years of filming “Lost,” he embarked on a globe-trotting adventure by creating a three-season documentary series, searching for the world’s most dangerous and improbable animals. In 2015, he made a brief television appearance in the police series “100 Code,” but he sought to diversify his projects. In 2019, he joined the cast of the thriller “Blackout,” a film that received mixed reviews, where he plays a distressed father when his family, like more than 200 million others, finds themselves without electricity.
The same year, Dominic Monaghan entered the “Star Wars” universe, appearing in Episode 9 alongside Adam Driver and Matt Smith. More recently, he played in “Edge of the World” in 2021 and in the series “Moonhaven” in 2022. In addition to his acting career, he also appeared in Eminem and Rihanna’s music video “Love The Way You Lie,” alongside Megan Fox.

5-Jorge Garcia – Hugo Reyes
Jorge Garcia had never held major roles before being cast in “Lost.” Before that, he was a semi-pro wrestler at the University of California. Self-conscious about his weight, he plays Hurley, a character whose life changes when he wins the lottery using a series of numbers deemed cursed. Interestingly, this role was created specifically for him, though he originally auditioned for the role of Sawyer.
After “Lost,” Jorge Garcia made a brief but memorable appearance in a hilarious episode of the sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” where he makes a small reference to the program: “I’ve been on that island too long!” Subsequently, the actor continued with other series. In 2012, he played in “Alcatraz,” then returned to the island where “Lost” was filmed to participate in “Hawaii 5-0” from 2010 to 2020, where he reunited with former colleagues Daniel Dae Kim and Terry O’Quinn.
Beyond that, Jorge Garcia had small roles in several films: he appeared in “Cooties” in 2014, “The Ridiculous 6” in 2015, the comedy “The Healer” in 2016, and “Get a Job,” also in 2016. It wasn’t until 2020, at the end of “Hawaii 5-0,” that he got his very first leading role in a film, playing Memo Garrido, a former singer turned hermit in the Netflix production “Nobody Knows I’m Here.”

6-Emilie de Ravin – Claire Littleton
From 1999 to 2002, according to her Wikipedia page, Emilie de Ravin became known as one of the stars of the teen series “Roswell.” It was one of her first television appearances, and she was then an Australian actress passionate about classical dance. Later, in “Lost,” she inherited the role of Claire, a young pregnant and single woman looking for an adoptive family for her son. On the island, she discovers that her baby has quite mysterious characteristics.
In 2010, Emilie played the role of Ally Craig in “Remember Me” alongside Robert Pattinson. Her talent continued to shine in the fantasy series “Once Upon a Time,” where she played Belle from 2011 to 2018. 7-Josh Holloway – James Ford « Sawyer »
The sarcastic and unpleasant con man of the castaways, Josh Holloway, quickly won over the public. Less than a year after “Lost” ended, this heartthrob, also a model and producer, made his film debut alongside Tom Cruise in “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.” Subsequently, he distinguished himself as Chris Brown’s indispensable coach in “Battle of the Year” in 2013, before playing an agent in “Paranoia” the same year.
In 2014, he landed the leading role in the action series “Intelligence,” which unfortunately wasn’t renewed for a second season. Meanwhile, he starred in the action film “Sabotage.” From 2016 to 2018, he played Will Bowman in the series “Colony,” where he continued to showcase his talent. In 2020, he appeared in the dramatic series “Yellowstone” and in the reboot of Spielberg’s anthology series, “Amazing Stories.”
Now 55 years old, Josh Holloway joined the cast of the crime series “Duster” this year, where he plays the lead role. This series should be available on the Max platform by 2025.

8-Terry O’Quinn – John Locke
Terry O’Quinn, who played the mysterious miracle man John Locke, won an Emmy Award for his role in 2007 and hasn’t stopped working since “Lost.” In 2012, he held one of the leading roles in the dramatic series “666 Park Avenue.” Subsequently, he joined the cast of several American television series in smaller roles, such as “Falling Skies” between 2012 and 2013, “Secrets and Lies” in 2015, and “American Patriot” as well as “Castle Rock” in 2018. He also made appearances in “Hawaii 5-0” between 2015 and 2020.
Terry O’Quinn appeared in series that weren’t renewed for second seasons, such as “Gang Related” in 2014 and “Emergence” in 2019. In cinema, he was cast in two films: “Ring of Fire” in 2013 and “New Life” in 2016, where he got a small role as a doctor. In addition to his acting roles, he was the only one to capitalize on “Lost’s” success by hosting a show in 2017 dedicated to strange disappearances.
At 72 years old, Terry O’Quinn hasn’t said his last word: this year he’s in the cast of “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live,” available on Amazon Prime and Canal+.
9-Daniel Dae Kim – Jin Kwon
Since “Lost,” opportunities have been flowing for Daniel Dae Kim, who played a former violent henchman ready to do anything for his wife. Shortly after “Lost” concluded, he joined CBS’s reboot “Hawaii Five-0″ as the first actor to be cast for the role of Chin Ho Kelly. Simultaneously, he starred alongside Shailene Woodley and Theo James in “Divergent 1” and “2,” where he played Jack Kang, the leader of Candor, from 2015 to 2016.
In 2017, Daniel left the “Hawaii Five-0” team due to a pay equity dispute. He then became a recurring doctor in several television series, appearing in “The Good Doctor,” where he was also executive producer, until 2019, and in “New Amsterdam” from 2020 to 2023. During this same period, he performed on Broadway in “The King and I.“
Last year, the former “Lost” gangster lent his voice to Ozai, the Fire Lord, in the animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Now 56 years old, Daniel Dae Kim will return to Broadway in September to perform in the comedy “Yellow Face.”

10-Michael Emerson – Benjamin Linus
Michael Emerson worked for a long time in theater and press, illustrating some articles in publications like the Boston Globe and New York Times. He landed the role of Benjamin Linus in the second season of “Lost,” where he plays the leader of the “Others,” a cold, manipulative character hungry for power. Considered one of the most hated characters in the series, his Machiavellian interpretation earned him the 2009 Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, as he succeeded in chilling viewers’ blood.
However, Michael Emerson isn’t limited to this “villain” role. From 2011 to 2016, he switched to the good side of the story and developed other plans, this time to save humanity, in the very famous series “Person of Interest,” broadcast from 2013 on TF1 in France. Despite his ten years of work on television, the American actor struggled to find substantial roles afterward. In 2017, he appeared in seven episodes of the series “Arrow,” then played the role of Abbon in “The Name of the Rose,” before appearing in the series “Evil” in 2019.
In cinema, he lent his voice to the animated films “Batman: The Dark Knight” and its sequel “Batman: Returns.” Now 69 years old, Michael Emerson returns this year in a small role as a doctor in the series adapted from the video game “Fallout” and rediscovers his evil side in the fantasy film “Man and Witch.”
